Agriculture is the most important sector in Indian economy, as it forms the mainstay for food security and provide livelihood to about 52% of the working population in India. In order to fulfill the need of middle level skilled manpower in agriculture and allied sectors, the Department of Agriculture & Animal Husbandry (DAAH) has been involved in designing and developing vocational courses and teaching-learning materials in different areas of agriculture and allied sector. It has developed more than 32 curricula, 11 practical manuals for pre-vocational education and 55 textbooks and practical manuals for +2 level (Grade XI & XII) vocational courses and is now involved in designing and developing modular competency based curricula and courseware for vocational subjects in schools under the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). Besides developing courses, the Department is also involved in training key functionaries and teachers and conducting researches in vocational education.


Conduct survey and consult stakeholders to assess the need of middle level skilled manpower and skills required for various jobs in agriculture and allied sectors. Conduct research studies on various aspects of vocational education, with special reference to agriculture sector. Organize awareness programme on vocationalisation of secondary and higher secondary education under the NSQF for senior functionaries of the States/UTs Build capacity of key functionaries, teachers and instructors in implementation of various aspects of VS & HSE and VET in the area of agriculture and animal husbandry. Develop guidelines, competency based curricula, print and non-print teaching-learning materials, and publicity materials based on National Occupation Standards (NOSs) for various job roles and entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors. Establish a network with international and national organization, including Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), National Horticulture Board (NHB), Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, Central and State Agricultural Universities, National Dairy Research Institute, Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium, Agricultural Associations, etc. for orienting key functionaries, training of teachers and development of curricula and courseware.
